Myyoga style

Myyoga style is a bit eclectic, I am a fitness girl at heart, so my style reflects this. It is based in the strong athletic Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow styles with Hatha, Yin and Restorative in there for balance. I enjoy ALL yoga.

Vinyasa

Vinyasa, which means linking movement with breath, moves the body with fluidity, intention, and rhythm. It is a flowing and energizing practice that has many physical benefits, including:

  • Increasing the mobility of the joints
  • Strengthening the muscles and bones
  • Creating better elasticity in the fascia and connective tissue
  • Toning the internal organs
  • Building lung capacity and cardiovascular strength
  • Improving hormonal balance, correcting hormonal imbalances
  • Managing stress, anxiety and calming the mind
  • Preparing the body for meditation and a deeper connection

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa Flow often moves at a relatively fast pace.  As a result, it is easy to collapse, force, or push through the poses, which can potentially cause compression and/or strain. Doing these repetitive movements without structural awareness can be a problem. I try to emphasize alignment with lots of direction and options to modify while we flow pose to pose.

I believe it is possible to teach a well-rounded flow class that is strong, fun and inspiring while still sequenced in a way that is structured, mindful, technical, and, most importantly, safe.

Adding in other modalities like Pilates, Barre and Fitness keeps things fresh and our bodies guessing. Movement should be fun, sometimes challenging, sometimes more restorative. It all depends on the day or the week we are having! Learning to listen to what we need is all part of the journey.
